Summary
UTM FLNG entered into a 15-year gas supply agreement with the NNPC/Seplat joint venture for about 200 million standard cubic feet of gas per day. The gas will feed a floating liquefied natural gas facility with capacity of about 1.8 million tonnes a year.
TEMPLARS describes the project as Nigeria’s first floating LNG development, with an estimated cost of US$3bn.
Why it matters
Long-term gas supply is a precondition for project finance on an LNG development; the agreement addresses feedstock risk for lenders.
Scope of legal work
TEMPLARS advised UTM FLNG on the gas supply arrangements, bankability considerations and operationalisation of the gas supply agreement.
