Intelligence. Business development. Thought leadership.
Business development, built on intelligence.
Meridian Legal BD & Branding helps law firms in Nigeria turn legal work into clear, dignified market visibility, drawing on Meridian’s legal-market intelligence, distributed through Meridian’s channels and designed with the Rules of Professional Conduct in mind.
Why Meridian
Strong practices. Weak market narrative.
Nigeria’s commercial law firms have depth, credentials and international recognition. Too often, the way that work reaches the market has not kept pace.
- Directory fatigue. Submission season absorbs partner and associate time, and rankings alone no longer distinguish a firm.
- Commoditised storytelling. Deal announcements across the market follow the same template, so similar work reads the same everywhere.
- No line of sight. Firms rarely know which briefing, article or event contributed to which instruction.
- Caution about the Rules. Uncertainty about Rule 39 of the RPC 2023 leaves some firms invisible, while others hand visibility to generalist agencies unfamiliar with how lawyers may and may not promote their practice.
- No owner of growth. Business development is often handled part-time, between billable matters.
A legal-native alternative. Meridian already tracks transactions, firms and practitioners across West Africa. Legal BD & Branding applies that intelligence to your firm’s positioning, pairs your work with Meridian’s distribution and convening, and measures what the activity achieves. It is not a PR agency, and it is not a ranking.

Compliance & independence
Designed with the Rules in mind
Under Rule 39 of the Rules of Professional Conduct for Legal Practitioners 2023, lawyers in Nigeria may advertise and promote their practice, provided the promotion is fair, accurate and dignified and does not amount to solicitation. Our work is built around that distinction.
Our approach
- No superiority claims, comparisons with other lawyers or success-rate statements
- Content that informs rather than solicits
- Directory and biographical material aligned with the Rules’ provisions for law lists and directories
- Paid advertising, where used, considered against applicable advertising regulation
Our review process supports, but does not replace, each firm’s own professional responsibility. Compliance with the Rules remains the responsibility of the instructing firm and its practitioners.
Independence from Meridian rankings
- Legal BD & Branding operates separately from Meridian’s research and rankings function.
- An engagement has no bearing on the Meridian West Africa 50, transaction coverage or editorial judgement.
- Meridian does not sell rankings, awards, endorsements or favourable editorial treatment.
- Partner content is always labelled as such.

Questions firms ask
Is this a PR agency?
No. Meridian Legal BD & Branding is a business development and thought leadership service built on Meridian’s legal-market intelligence and distribution, designed specifically for law firms.
Will working with you affect our Meridian ranking or coverage?
No. The service operates separately from Meridian’s research and rankings function. An engagement has no effect on the Meridian West Africa 50, transaction coverage or editorial judgement, in either direction.
Is this compliant with the Rules of Professional Conduct?
Our services are designed around Rule 39 of the Rules of Professional Conduct for Legal Practitioners 2023 and the distinction between permitted promotion and prohibited solicitation, and we review deliverables with that in mind. Responsibility for professional-conduct compliance remains with the instructing firm and its practitioners.
Do you guarantee directory rankings or media coverage?
No. Directories and editors make their own independent decisions. We work to improve the quality, consistency and evidence behind your submissions and content.
Will our content be published on The Meridian?
Partner content distributed through Meridian channels is clearly labelled as such and remains subject to editorial review and fit.
Can boutiques engage, or only large firms?
Both. Practice Spotlight is designed for specialist teams and boutique practices.
What does it cost?
Engagements are scoped to each firm. The Brand & BD Audit is a fixed-scope starting point, and indicative fees are shared after an initial conversation.
Is our information kept confidential?
