Who we are

The Meridian (“Meridian”, “we”) publishes legal-market intelligence at themeridian50.com, including the Transactions Tracker, the Meridian West Africa 50, the Meridian Lawyer Rankings and The Meridian Briefing newsletter. For privacy questions or requests, write to am@themeridian50.com.

What we collect

We collect personal information when you give it to us or use the site:

  • Newsletter sign-up: your name and email address, and whether you open or click our emails.
  • Forms: the details you submit through our partnership, Legal BD & Branding, transaction submission, lawyer ranking submission and briefing forms, such as your name, organisation, role, email address and the information in your message.
  • Published professional information: names, firms, titles, roles on transactions and professional photographs of lawyers, taken from public sources such as firm websites, announcements and filings, and credited on the site.
  • Technical information: information sent by your browser, such as IP address, device and browser type, and pages visited, used to run, secure and measure the site.

How we use it

  • To send The Meridian Briefing and related Meridian updates you have asked for, or that we have a valid basis to send.
  • To respond to enquiries and review submissions.
  • To research and publish legal-market intelligence about professional activity that is already public.
  • To measure and improve the site and our emails, including delivery, opens and clicks.
  • To keep the site secure and meet legal obligations.

Legal basis

We process personal information under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 and other applicable laws, on the basis of your consent (for example, newsletter sign-up), our legitimate interest in publishing professional market intelligence and operating the site, or where needed to respond to your request.

Emails and unsubscribing

Every email includes an unsubscribe link and a link to manage your preferences. You can unsubscribe at any time. We use MailPoet to manage and send our emails.

Sharing

We do not sell personal information. We share it only with service providers that help us run the site and send emails, such as our hosting, form and email providers, or where required by law.

Retention

We keep personal information only for as long as needed for the purposes above. Newsletter details are kept until you unsubscribe; form submissions are kept for as long as needed to handle them and for our records.

Your rights

Subject to applicable law, you can ask to access, correct or delete your personal information, object to or restrict its use, or withdraw consent. Lawyers and firms can also request corrections to published professional information through editorial@themeridian50.com. To make a request, contact us using the details above.
