On 5 August 2025 Guinea’s military-led government revoked Guinea Alumina Corporation (GAC), EGA’s concession, citing mining-code breaches (failure to build an alumina refinery), and transferred the assets “free of charge and without compensation” to newly created state-backed Nimba Mining SA. GAC had invested >US$1bn since 2019 and exported at 14Mtpa at peak from reserves of ~470Mt; the seizure eliminated 2,000+ jobs in Boké and escalated into threatened litigation, with December 2025 talks on a bauxite supply agreement to avert it.

It is the sharpest enforcement yet of Guinea’s “refinery-or-lose-it” policy regime (see the US$1bn refinery wave, Tier 2).

Value: Not disclosed.

Advisers: GAC/EGA’s dispute counsel and the state’s advisers were not publicly named in the revocation notices.
