Chalco (Aluminum Corporation of China) committed US$1bn to a 1.2Mtpa greenfield alumina refinery in Guinea, its first alumina refinery outside China, building on a March 2024 MOU and June 2024 framework with EGA’s Guinea Alumina Corporation signed at a UAE-China business forum (announced May 2026). It is the largest single commitment in Guinea’s push to refine bauxite at home.
