President Bola Tinubu has signed the Appropriation (Amendment) (No. 4) Bill, 2025, extending the implementation period of the 2025 budget from 30 September 2026 to 31 December 2026.
What happened
The National Assembly passed the bill on 29 September 2026 and the Presidency announced assent the following day, according to a statement by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga reported on 1 October. The stated purpose is to give Ministries, Departments and Agencies more time to complete ongoing capital projects so that appropriated funds are used without disrupting critical programmes. No new spending figures were announced.
Why it matters to contractors and lenders
Capital releases under the 2025 Appropriation Act remain lawful for another quarter. Contractors, project lenders and advisers on government-funded infrastructure should check payment schedules, certification dates and any milestone-linked financing against the new 31 December deadline rather than the old 30 September date. It is the latest in a series of amendments that have kept two federal budgets running side by side.
