Africa Legal reported that mining lawyer Mbuyi Katumba has joined AngloGold Ashanti as Legal Counsel in Johannesburg. He was promoted to Senior Associate at Beech Incorporated in May 2026, having joined as a candidate attorney in July 2021. He completed a six-month secondment at AngloGold Ashanti in 2025 covering litigation management, dispute resolution and compliance across its African operations. His practice covers mining, natural resources, infrastructure, environmental and regulatory law.
Why it matters
The move reflects the continued flow of mid-level mining and disputes lawyers from boutique firms into in-house roles at resource companies. It also shows secondments acting as a route to permanent in-house hires.
