On the record this week: four new deals and a full source check of the Transactions Tracker

Four deals added or completed, from the Renaissance joint venture to an EGP 10bn financing in Cairo, and the start of a source check of all 1,138 transactions on the record.

In short: four transactions were added to or completed on The Meridian’s record this week, with disclosed values of US$800 million and EGP 10 billion. We have also started a full source check of every transaction on the record, and from today each record shows whether its source has been linked.

The source check

The Meridian’s rankings are calculated from transaction records, so every record needs a source a reader can check. This week we reviewed the record and found that 74 of 1,138 published transactions linked to a public source. We have begun checking the rest, newest first.

  • In the first 50 records checked, 16 now carry public sources and two dates were corrected where the deal was older than its record date.
  • Many records describe confidential instructions submitted by firms, such as unnamed lenders or unreported registry matters. No public source exists for these, so we are asking the firms concerned to confirm each matter, its date and their role.
  • Every transaction page now shows its source status. A record marked as awaiting a source is not removed, but readers can see that it has not yet been checked.

Firms can speed this up. If your firm is credited on a record without a source, send us the announcement, filing or press report, or confirm that the matter is confidential.

The index

The Africa Legal Market Activity Index recalculates whenever a record is published or corrected. Records whose only date is an import date are left out, so the index measures deals, not data entry.
