Shelter Afrique opens a XOF60bn sustainable bond in West Africa

The bank’s first sustainable bond, in five- and seven-year tranches at 6.10% and 6.30%, is open for subscription until 30 October to fund housing across the region.

Shelter Afrique Development Bank is raising XOF60bn (about US$100m) through its first sustainable bond, on the regional market of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU).

The terms

The bond has a five-year tranche at 6.10% and a seven-year tranche at 6.30%. Subscription runs from 7 to 30 October 2026. CGF Bourse is lead arranger, with IFC and Ecobank anchoring the issue (Reuters, 9 October).

Why it matters

Proceeds are earmarked for housing finance in West Africa, where long-dated local-currency funding for mortgages is scarce. A development bank borrowing in CFA francs on the regional exchange, with DFI and commercial anchors, gives the WAEMU market another sustainability-labelled benchmark outside sovereign issuance.

Also in the region

On 14 October the EBRD announced a €99.1m (about US$111m) loan to Mota-Engil to finance equipment, working capital and refinancing at three mines in Côte d’Ivoire and Senegal, with a training and women’s-participation programme attached.
