British International Investment (BII) and FMO have provided US$52m of financing for the Kafue Solar Project, two 20MW AC solar PV plants (about 56MWp combined) near Kafue in Lusaka Province, developed by Globeleq Kafue Solar Limited. It is the first project under Zambia’s Global Energy Transfer Feed-in Tariff (GET FiT) programme to reach financial close, and is expected to supply about 38,000 households.
Advisers: Clifford Chance advised BII and FMO (Paris partner Delphine Siino Courtin leading; London partner Edward Bretherton on construction). Counsel to Globeleq was not named.
